The better your website is set up for SEO, the easier it is for patients to search and find you on the Internet. So why is it important to rank on the first page of search results? Did you know that 75% of Internet users never click past the first page of search results?

Which search engine should you concentrate on optimizing your search-ability? Google. Google is still the most highly used search engine. Google’s search engine accounts for approximately 66.5% of search share, while Bing falls in second with 15.4%, then Yahoo with 13.5%, Ask at 3.0%, and finally AOL at 1.6%.

So how do you best optimize your website? Google looks at a long list of criteria to rank your website for search engines. Some top tier items they consider are:

  • Site content and keyword use in copy
  • Page title tags
  • Description meta tag
  • URL structure
  • Site structure/navigation
  • Use of anchor text
  • Use of images and associated alt tags
  • Use of heading tags (H tags)
  • Robots.txt files
  • Number of backlinks
